The 4P’s of AIESEC Leadership

AIESEC, a global youth-led organization, is renowned for its dynamic and transformative leadership. Its leaders are the driving force behind numerous impactful projects and initiatives worldwide. They embody a unique blend of qualities that enable them to inspire, innovate, and effect positive change. The essence of AIESEC leadership can be encapsulated in the 4P’s: Passion, Purpose, Perseverance, and Positivity. These qualities distinguish AIESEC leaders and empower them to make significant contributions to their communities and the world.

Passion

AIESEC leaders are driven by a deep passion for creating positive change. This enthusiasm fuels their efforts and motivates those around them. Their passion is contagious, inspiring others to join the movement and work towards a better future. This passion is not just about enthusiasm; it translates into a relentless drive to address social issues, empower youth, and create sustainable solutions. Whether organizing a community project or leading a global initiative, AIESEC leaders infuse their work with energy and commitment, making them influential role models for others.

Purpose

Purpose is at the heart of AIESEC leadership. Leaders are guided by a clear vision and a strong sense of purpose. This direction helps them stay focused on their goals and ensures that their actions are aligned with the organization’s mission to develop leadership in youth worldwide. AIESEC leaders understand the importance of having a meaningful goal and work tirelessly to achieve it. Their purpose-driven approach allows them to navigate challenges with clarity and determination, always keeping the bigger picture in mind. This sense of purpose also helps them inspire and mobilize their teams, creating a shared commitment to achieving their objectives.

Perseverance

AIESEC leaders demonstrate perseverance in the face of challenges. They understand that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight and are willing to put in the hard work required to achieve their objectives. This resilience helps them overcome obstacles and keeps them moving forward. The ability to persevere is crucial in a world where setbacks are inevitable. AIESEC leaders show that with persistence and dedication, it is possible to overcome difficulties and achieve lasting impact. Their perseverance inspires others to stay the course, even when the path is tough, and to continue striving for positive change.

Positivity

Maintaining a positive attitude is crucial for AIESEC leaders. They approach every situation with optimism and a can-do mindset, which helps them navigate difficulties and inspire their teams. Positivity also fosters a supportive and motivating environment, enabling everyone to perform at their best. AIESEC leaders understand that a positive outlook can transform challenges into opportunities and setbacks into learning experiences. Their positivity not only enhances their own leadership effectiveness but also creates an uplifting atmosphere for their teams, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and high performance.

By embodying the 4P’s—Passion, Purpose, Perseverance, and Positivity—AIESEC leaders create a powerful impact, driving change and fostering growth within their communities and beyond. These qualities enable them to lead with vision and inspiration, making a significant difference in the world.

Empowered to Speak Up: the journey within.

Empowered to Speak Up: the journey within.

On the 24th of June 2024, the third phase of the EmpowerALL project, titled Speak Up, unfolded at the YMCA in Kandy. This event, hosted by AIESEC in the University of Peradeniya and organized by AIESEC in Sri Lanka, was a significant milestone marked as a national event by our organization. The event was guided by our national partner, Emerald, who has been a driving force behind the EmpowerALL project, a series of initiatives aimed at empowering the youth of Sri Lanka.

On the day of the event, I felt really overwhelmed and overjoyed to see when the venue was filled with delegates and we had to make special arrangements to accompany the turnout of more than 250 participants. I thought what an incredible impact it had on an event that was postponed twice!

We had two guest speakers at the event. Mr. Farweez Imamudeen who is a renowned public speaking coach and a corporate trainer conducted his session on communication beyond words. His session was truly remarkable as he broke down the essential needed for effective communication and said goodbye to stage fright. The session was very generous in knowledge. Mr. Dilan Senanayake who is a maestro in media contributed his insights for the session on communication beyond headlines. The session was mainly conducted in Sinhala. The session was filled with unconventional approaches and all the randomness made the audience frenzy with excitement and laughter.

The Journey Within

This was also my first experience of being in an organizing committee, and I learned a lot through my role as a member of the delegates team for the event SpeakUP. It wasn’t an easy task since my team and I had to contact schools & institutes, meet their administration of Principals and teachers, get the list of delegates, initiate touchpoints with and for the delegates, keep track of the registrations and so on.

The journey was not without its hurdles. The event had to be postponed twice due to unforeseen circumstances, which added to the anxieties of if this would ever be possible. However, the organizing committee was incredibly supportive. We all helped each other irrespective of our designated roles, motivating and encouraging one another to give our best until the event was a resounding success.

In reflection

It was humbling and satisfying to see our organizing committee’s hard work blooming with success right before their eyes. At the end of the event, we all sat in a circle and distributed the box of feedback to read them. The comments were really moving and encouraging as they wanted us to organize more events in the future as well. After returning home I was personally messaged by the teachers of schools who attended the event and they congratulated us for our success and they too wished us to organize more events like this in the future. It is in such moments that the walls of organizational bureaucracies and event-jitters are shed and we are reminded that we are part of something bigger!

Another unforgettable memory of mine was being a compere for this event. Despite it being my first time as a compere, I gave my best shot, and it felt really great! At the end of the day, this made me think of how Speak UP was truly a transformational journey and an everlasting experience for me!

With the guidance of Emerald Sri Lanka and the support of AIESEC in Sri Lanka, we were able to create an event that not only empowered the youth but also provided valuable learning experiences for everyone involved. Being witness to Speak Up unraveling both within and seeing its impact encouraged me and echoing the same sentiment, my advice is “take that leap”, in any circumstance frightens you and I promise that you will thank yourself for it.
