National Partners’ Week Spotlight: Academy of Adventure

AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. It is the world’s largest youth run organization which works towards realizing the main goal of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and it has 100 countries as well as 40000 members around the world. In AIESEC of Sri Lanka there are more than 1000 undergraduate members from 15 universities. Among those, our AIESEC in University of Colombo consists of undergraduates from nine faculties and provides them leadership opportunities while engaging in community development. We conduct 20+ programs throughout the year and work with more than 250+ foreign volunteers per year.

Being one of the four pillars holding the economy in the country, tourism is an economic livewire to poor communities in Sri Lanka. Project Impactful Traveller contributes to the UN SDG Goal 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth” aiming to introduce and promote sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka, while promoting local culture and products targeting the SDG 8.9, transforming the foreign intern into a Sri Lankan by heart who loves the local culture and the beautiful corners of Sri Lanka while visiting them around and having a better interaction around the nation. Throughout this entire journey of our Project Impactful Traveller, there were significant organizations which joined with us as talent enablers to employ our volunteers and who faithfully performed their tasks aligned with relevant SDG in relation to their organization’s goals.

Among them, Academy of Adventure (Pvt) Ltd played an immense role towards the success of our project. Academy of Adventure (Pvt) Ltd, is a sports and recreation venue specialized in outdoor adventure training and leadership training programmes. The center consists of life changing adventures such as trekking, zip-lining, canoeing etc. The center has been in operation for about two decades and has a myriad of nature activities for all adventure lovers. It is an organization which started with the objective of using outdoor training as a Launchpad to foster leadership skills in well-rounded personalities and providing an unparalleled leisure and adventure experience in an eco-friendly atmosphere. Throughout this journey Academy of Adventure contributed to our project as In-Kind partner by providing a 20% discount for all our delegates who participated with the Travelify event. We as the AIESEC in University of Colombo highly appreciate their contribution for our project even during the pandemic environment. Our AIESEC in the University of Colombo admired their great contribution to our project through giving them the visibility in digital and social media platforms of AIESEC.
